Antipicks

Here are the official antirules for the 2010 Nascar Antipicks Contest.

The underlying goal of anti-picks is to get some airtime and mention of the
names that aren't in the headlines every day, To get us more familiar with
the names that aren't running up front every week. To at least get some
recognition for the underdogs.  As Dale Earnhardt once said "It doesn't matter if
they are cheering or booing, just as long as they are making noise,"

The object of Anti-picks is to pick the bottom 5 finishers in each points
race of the Nascar Sprint Cup season.  Anti-scores will be kept and tallied by me
and I'll post the results each week (hopefully).

At the end of the season we will crown an Antipicks Champion.
Also back this year will be the Dash to the Crash playoff which will run in addition to classic antipicks so we can crown two losers this season.  It will run similar to the Chase where after 26 races I will take the top 10 in antipoints and tighten them up for a ten race Dash.  This will run separately and not affect the regular antipicks.

1. Send your Anti-picks to me at my email address.  Please put Anti somewhere in the subject. You can use names or numbers (***numbers are easier when I'm entering them***)  Unless you specify, I will assume your top pick as your last place pick working upwards.
brimitch@myfairpoint.net
You can also send in your picks using the entry form available here:
http://autorace.retiredfolks.net/

As usual, I'll allow you to send in a sixth pick as a provisional in
case one of your picks didn't qualify......Heck....I'll even allow a seventh or eighth if you want.  Just mark your provisional picks as such.
Also you can send me a set of picks to use as Default Antipicks in case you
forget to send in picks any week (Please put Default in the Subject)  or if
you just want to use the same ones all the time.  You can play all season
just by sending one set of picks if you mark them as Default in the subject.
Make sure you put in plenty of provisionals when sending default picks.
If I see your default picks getting out of date, such as teams changing or
drivers losing rides etc., I'll try to send a note to update your defaults.

2.  Your picks will be awarded points by their finishing position as awarded
by Nascar.  ie...185 for 1st  170 for 2nd ...etc..... (bonuses
included).  In the event a car doesn't earn points because of a late entry, I will assign points that they normally would have earned.

3.  Bonuses (are not a good thing since you are trying to score as few
points as possible)
A 150 point bonus will be awarded for a Did Not Qualify or a Did Not
Attempt.  (equivalent to a 6th place finish)

4.  Penalties ( these are good since they lower your score)
10 point penalty for picking any car finishing in the bottom 5
50 point penalty for correctly picking last place finishing car
50 point penalty for having 3 of your picks in the bottom 5
100 point penalty for having 4 of your picks in the bottom 5
200 point penalty for picking all 5 last place finishers.

5.   I will then take those results and assign Antipoints to them so that we
can have a fair points race on the basis of  200 for worst, 195 for next
worst, 190, 185,,,yada yada

This year I'll continue to add a  Loser Bonus to the antipoints.  Here is
how it works.
Its a variable bonus depending on how badly the loser loses.
EX 1.  Fred is the weekly loser scoring 160 points and Bad Betty is next worst with 193
points.   Fred will receive 200 antipoints as the loser and 33 loser bonus
points (the difference between last's and next's points) for a total of 233
Antipoints. Betty receives the usual 195 for second.
EX 2:  Lousy Larry is the loser with 360 points and Pokey Pete is next with
361.  Larry gets 200 antipoints and 1 Loser Bonus Point for a total of 201
antipoints.

6.  Each week I will post or email the weekly results and Cumulative Anti-point
totals for everyone.

7.  Perfect picks are very rare (5 out of 5 correct including last place), but we have had 7 people accomplish this.   They are  Dennis Shaw, Jim Boisclair,  Brian Mitchell, Judi Krieger, Landon DeVane, Paul Withun and John Musolino.

8.  I wish you all bad luck and hope to see you in the garage.
